Cignal made light work of Philippine Coast Guard, 25-18, 25-16, 25-17, to remain unbeaten in the Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference at the Paco Arena in Manila.
The HD Spikers wasted no time in dispatching the Lifesavers, finishing the game in just an hour and 17 minutes to pull away from the 2-0 Adamson-Davies Paints and take solo first spot in Pool C with a 3-0 record.
“They performed very well. For the past three games namin dito sa Spikers’ Turf, laging first set and second set first six tapos third set, second unit so medyo shaky for the first three games namin,” said Cignal head coach Dexter Clamor.
“Ngayon, siguro na-adapt na namin, na-adapt na ng second unit na kailangan lagi silang ready para pag pinasok sa loob ng court, makakapagperform sila nang maayos,” he added.
The HD Spikers led by as much as nine points in the third frame, 23-14, following an attack error from the side of Coast Guard before eventually finishing off the game.
Vince Abrot paced Cignal with 10 points on 10 attacks while Peter Torres tallied seven points, including two kill blocks. Jau Umandal and Alfred Valbuena each chipped in six markers in the win.
The HD Spikers reigned above the net, tallying a total of nine kill blocks in the game compared to the Lifesavers, who only had one in the contest.
On the other hand, Aidam Adam and Rudy Gatdula each scored eight points for Coast Guard, which slid to 0-3, tied with Santa Rosa at the bottom of the group.
Cignal will next face St. Gerard Construction-Benilde on November 17, 5:00 p.m. at the same venue while Coast Guard looks to bounce back against Sta. Rosa on November 22, 5:00 p.m. at the same venue.
