Now a seven-time champion coach in the Premier Volleyball League, Sherwin Meneses never forgets the people involved in this triumph, from top to bottom.
Excitement and happiness filled the ever-humble and low-profile tactician after Creamline achieved the PVL’s first-ever Grand Slam with a 21-25, 25-17, 20-25, 26-24, 15-13 win over Cignal in the 2024 Invitational Conference gold medal match on Thursday at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
This is the Cool Smashers’ 10th overall title, with their first three crowns earned under Tai Bundit.
“As of now, syempre sobrang saya namin na lalo na kami, ako. Hindi madali kunin tong Grand Slam pero nakuha namin,” said Meneses.
“Thankful sa management, sa players, and sa mga staff namin na talagang nandiyan lagi, 5:30 a.m., 5 a.m., so thank you talaga sa kanila.”
Meneses is in his third year coaching the Cool Smashers but has already steered the team to seven championships, one silver, and one bronze.
When he first accepted the coaching gig in 2022, this was already the vision Meneses had—building a dynasty in the country’s first and only professional league.
He knows he would not be doing it alone, with the management’s full support to help him reach the pinnacle of success every conference.
“Syempre kasi yung nagstart yung Creamline talagang supportive na talaga yung management, so number one talaga is yung management na nakikita mo na magsa-succeed talaga yung team,” said Meneses, grateful to the Ng family and team management headlined by Alan Acero.
“Sobrang supportive nila sa court, sa financial ng mga players, so sobrang supportive nila. Makikita namin talaga magsa-succeed yung Creamline because number one naman talaga is management.”
With 10 titles in the bag for Creamline and seven for Meneses, the journey never stops for the Cool Smashers, who are likely already looking forward to the next conference to further extend and expand their dynasty.
