The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas announced on Friday evening that it had received confirmation from FIBA granting Quentin Millora-Brown eligibility to play for Gilas Pilipinas Men as a local.
SBP president Al Panlilio confirmed that Millora-Brown is now part of the Gilas pool for the current cycle, should he accept the invitation.
“We’re pleased with the update from FIBA because a player of his size and skill can make a positive impact for Gilas Pilipinas Men,” said Panlilio.
This development marks the end of a long wait for Millora-Brown.
During UAAP Season 87 last year, the 25-year-old big man — who played a one-and-done stint with the University of the Philippines — stated that he had secured a Philippine passport before turning 16, making him eligible to suit up for Gilas as a local.
However, earlier this year, FIBA initially ruled that the 6-foot-10 center could only be classified as a naturalized player.
In response, Millora-Brown’s agency and legal team submitted additional evidence proving that he had indeed obtained his Philippine passport before the age of 16.
Documents obtained by Tiebreaker Times showed that Millora-Brown received his Philippine passport in 2005 when he was just four years old.
On Friday, FIBA officially updated his registration to “PHI, acquired by FIBA decision.”
With this, Millora-Brown is now eligible to join fellow young big men Kai Sotto and AJ Edu for the FIBA World Cup 2027 Qualifiers — potentially forming one of the tallest and most imposing frontlines in Gilas history.
