New-look Savouge made quick work of 3B, 25-15, 25-17, 25-20, for a dominant start to the 2026 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference on Wednesday night at the Filoil Centre.
With former Cignal stars JP Bugaoan and Louie Ramirez now in the fold, the Spin Doctors have quickly emerged as a more dangerous side, showcasing added firepower and depth early in this Sports Vision-organized tournament.
“So far onting push na lang kami sa jelling nila, but I’m happy kung ano ‘yung naging performance nila this game,” said Savouge head coach Sydney Calderon.
“Happy ako sa performance nila kasi ‘yun naman ‘yung sabi ko na we treat every team equally. Bago ‘man or ‘yung mga mainstay dito sa Spikers’ Turf, nandun ‘yung respect namin sa lahat ng teams,” Calderon added.
The Spin Doctors led a balanced offensive attack spearheaded by Ramirez, who finished with a team-high nine points. Shawie Caritativo, Mark Calado, Louis Gamban, and Bugaoan each contributed seven markers in the one-hour, 20-minute victory.
Savouge overwhelmed the Event Masters with a dominant 41-29 edge in attacks, a commanding 13-4 advantage in blocks, and a 3-1 margin in service aces, stamping their authority early in the match.
With the win, Savouge joined Alpha Insurance and Criss Cross as early leaders in the tournament, which also features Black Mamba, Arena Plus, Premier EMS, and Alpha Insurance and Surety Company Inc.
Meanwhile, Carl Berdal was the lone bright spot for 3B, posting 14 points on 13 attacks and one kill block, along with four excellent digs. Bonjomar Castel and Israel Encina both added six markers in the Event Masters’ debut loss.
3B will aim to bounce back from the defeat when they face VNS Always Bright Laticrete on Sunday at 3 p.m., at the same venue.
