Alas Pilipinas once again got the better of Myanmar, cruising to a 28-26, 25-17, 25-23 sweep to secure fifth place in the 2025 SEA V Cup on Saturday at the Jakarta International Velodrome in Indonesia.
The Philippines overcame a hard-fought opening set before taking control in the next two frames to finish fifth for the second straight leg, matching its result in Candon, Ilocos Sur last week, where it also defeated Myanmar.
Alas Pilipinas needed four set points to finally put away a determined Myanmar side in a tense opening frame.
Lirick Mendoza drilled a down-the-line attack to give the Filipinos a 27-26 lead before Htoo Bhone Myat Aung’s attack sailed long, allowing the Philippines to escape with a one-set advantage.
After surviving Myanmar’s early challenge, Alas Pilipinas found its rhythm and controlled the match the rest of the way.
Mendoza paced the Philippines with 21 points built on 19 attacks, one block, and one ace.
Louie Ramirez contributed 11 points, while team captain Lloyd Josafat added nine markers on six attacks and three blocks.
For Myanmar, Aung Myo Kyaw was the lone player to finish in double figures with 10 points.
