Savi Davison starts to get ‘groove’ back for PLDT

ANTIPOLO CITY — After sitting out the entire 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference due to a knee injury, Savi Davison is back in action for PLDT.

And the bad news for opposing teams? She’s only getting started.

The Filipino-Canadian outside hitter made her much-anticipated return on November 12 against Nxled at the Ynares Center here, where she posted 19 points on an 18-of-52 attacking clip.

In her second game, however, Davison truly shone. She erupted for 28 points on an efficient 26-of-53 attacking rate, leading PLDT to a straight-sets victory over Galeries Tower, 27-25, 25-22, 25-23, on Tuesday at the Ynares Center.

“I think in my second game, I felt a little more comfortable with how I moved around. I felt like I was starting to regain the trust of my teammates after missing the last conference,” said the 25-year-old High Speed Hitter.

“That felt really good, and I just feel better all around. I’m kind of just getting back into the groove of things. I honestly had no idea I had that many points, but I’m just glad how it all transpired.”

With Davison finding her rhythm, it’s an encouraging sign for PLDT head coach Rald Ricafort. However, he stressed the need for consistency, pointing out moments of complacency against both Nxled and Galeries Tower.

In their match against Nxled, PLDT dropped a set. Then against Galeries, they had to claw back from a six-point deficit late in the third set to secure the sweep.

“Hindi dapat umabot sa ganon eh, yung maghahabol pa kami ng malaki kung na-control namin yung start pa lang. Ang reminders ko sa kanila, katulad nung sa Nxled, hindi porket nag-up na kami ng 2-0, medyo may complacency,” said Ricafort.

Looking ahead to their clash with Capital1, Ricafort emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and intensity throughout the match.

“Siguro yung mabilis na pag-refocus kapag nagkakaroon ng ganong runs, kasi yun nga, hindi na pushover ang mga tao eh. Lahat magaling, lahat malakas na,” he said.

“‘Yung next time namin, katulad ng pagremind ko kanina, hindi porket naka-2-0 na medyo bababa yung level. Kailangan same-same lang hanggang dulo.”

The High Speed Hitters aim to sustain their momentum as they face the up-and-coming Solar Spikers next Tuesday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
