Santi Santillan shines as La Salle blasts Japan-select to open campaign


After a week in South Korea, the De La Salle University Green Archers showcased what they have learned so far from the trip, pounding Japan-Select, 89-65, to open their 2018 Asia-Pacific U-Basketball Challenge campaign on a high note, Sunday.

Former UV Green Lancer Santi Santillan led the Green Archers charge with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Aljun Melecio added 13 points and five assists.

The two stalwarts combined for 14 points in the third canto to take full control of the game.

Jollo Go then heated up in the final frame, knocking down three of his four triples in the game to give La Salle an imposing 89-65 lead with 31 ticks left

Encho Serrano impressed in his debut for the Green Archers, as he filled up the stat sheet with 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Taane Samuel provided the spark for the Green Archers in the early-goings of the game, scoring seven of his 12 points in the opening frame.

As a team, La Salle shot 49 percent from the field and knocked down nine triples.

Japanese youth team standout Yudai Nishida led the select team with 14 points and seven rebounds. Gen Haraiwa chipped in 13 markers.

La Salle will next face a selection squad from Chinese-Taipei on Monday, August 6.
