The worst has happened to Kagawa.
Finishing at the bottom of B.League’s Division II, the Five Arrows have automatically been relegated to B3.
Also relegated to the last division of Japan’s premier league is Juan Gomez de Liano’s former club Earth Friends Tokyo Z.
The Five Arrows, a team founded in November 2005, only amassed a record of 16-44 in the season.
“Due to the recent defeat against Nara, our club will be downgraded to B3 next season without waiting for the finals,” said Five Arrows associate director Hideaki Fujita. “We sincerely apologize for not meeting the expectations of everyone who supports Kagawa Five Arrows on a daily basis. We sincerely apologize.
“This season we fought from the start to strengthen the team with the goal of moving up to the B1. I was faced with the harsh reality of being demoted from B3, which was my initial goal of being promoted to B1. The responsibility lies solely in my incompetence as a Representative,” he continued.
“We would like to apologize to all our stakeholders, including the boosters who have supported us with all their might, the sponsors who have financially supported the club’s operations and the associated organizations.”
With this, the status of Roosevelt Adamson as Five Arrows import is now up in the air.
Adams, a former top pick in the PBA, averaged 9.2 points and 5.3 rebounds during the season.
Kagawa has already released world imports Angus Brandt and Nigel Spikers on Thursday.
Most likely to be promoted to B2 next season are the Iwate Big Bulls (45-7) and Saitama Broncos (43-9).
Jordan Heading’s Nagasaki is looking to get promoted to B1 while Kiefer Ravena’s Shiga is hoping to not get demoted to B2.
