It’s clear that Robert Bolick has yet to find his form. Fortunately for him, the San Beda University Red Lions could afford to wait.
Saturday afternoon, the defending NCAA Seniors Basketball Champions opened their campaign against the upstart Perpetual Altas. And the game was a war of attrition.
The Red Lions and the Altas figured in a back-and-forth affair, as both teams played their hearts out. But it was far from the fluid game San Beda wanted to showcase.
“Hindi ‘yun kahit nung pinakaunang panahon, first time naming mag-five assists lang,” rued Bolick. “We didn’t play as a team.”
Imagine this: Bolick had three of the five assists of the Red Lions. Perpetual floor general Edgar Charcos, on the other hand, had seven dimes alone.
Besides struggling to create for his teammates, the 6-foot-1 combo guard could not find his range, going just 3-for-14 from the field for 15 markers. But Bolick made it up with a crucial interception to close out the game, giving San Beda a 67-65 victory.
“Assists are part of playmaking and I didn’t do a good job siguro,” the 22-year-old shared.
“We only had five assists compared to 19. We should’ve lost that game.”
Though not offering his injury as an excuse, Bolick took it upon himself to assure that he is alright and getting back into shape.
“Give me time still recovering from my injury. I’ll get there,” said Bolick, who is still recovering from a sprained hamstring he sustained back in February.
