In the San Sebastian Golden Stags’ first two games in the NCAA Season 95 Seniors Basketball tournament, RK Ilagan has been on fire.
The 5-foot-11 guard out of Tondo posted numbers of 22.5 points on 45.2-percent shooting from the field, 36.8 clip from downtown.
That is why Topex Robinson made sure to ready the Lyceum Pirates for Ilagan.
“We know how important RK is for the Stags. I know we can’t really zero him but we could at least limit his production,” shared Robinson.
“He was coming in scoring in the twenties for the past two games.”
Well, the Pirates did just that — keep Ilagan scoreless.
Tuesday afternoon, the senior guard saw limited touches, only attempting four shots. Yes, after averaging 20.5 attempts in their first two games. Moreover, he was not able to shoot a single free throw.
And yes, he ended up not putting any bucket for the first time in his collegiate career that led to a 69-80 loss for San Sebastian.
“Talaga pong pinaghandaan kami ng Lyceum. Grabe yung depensa po sa akin at hirap na hirap po ako kumuha ng bola,” lamented Ilagan.
“As in whole game, naka-deny po sila sakin.”
Though giving credit to Lyceum’s defense, Ilagan also shared that it was his fault for not adjusting in-game.
“Sobra po nila akong napaghandaan, pero dapat always ready ako. Yun yung mali ko.”
For him, this was a necessary game to experience to make him hungrier for the long haul.
