RK Ilagan submitted one of his better performances in quite a while to provide the spark in Blackwater’s 131-108 upset of Rain or Shine for a smashing PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup debut on Saturday evening at the Ynares Center II in Montalban.
Fully healthy from a knee issue that sidelined him for most of the last Commissioner’s Cup, the spitfire guard made 22 points, five rebounds, and three assists as he helped out the Bossing’s second-quarter breakaway for the 72-56 halftime lead.
Ilagan shot an excellent 8-of-12 from the field, including three triples as outside shooting played a massive factor in the blowout win—the crew as a whole knocked down a total of 12 triples and a four-pointer.
Two more players finished with 20-plus points in the stunner, with import Kentrell Barkley top-scoring for Blackwater with 29 points alongside 15 rebounds and 10 assists for a triple-double in his PBA debut.
Star guard Sedrick Barefield, meanwhile, delivered 24 points with three rebounds and three assists as the troika bannered the balanced attack for the team of Coach Pat Aquino, which saw a total of six players finish in double figures.
