Ranya Musa shines as Cignal HD rolls to 3rd win at Generika-Ayala’s expense

After a slow start, the Cignal HD Spikers thoroughly drubbed the Generika-Ayala Lifesavers, 19-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-19, earning their third straight win of the 2019 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Cignal head coach Edgar Barroga attributed their first set loss to a feeling out period. Once they adjusted their rotation to have Rachel Daquis come off the bench, Cignal unlocked more favorable scoring options.

“Meron kasi kaming gameplan. May options kami na nakadepende sa sitwasyon. Nakita ko na hindi effective ‘yung first set namin so sinubukan ko ‘yung option na si Rachel muna ‘yung pamalit. Naging effective kaya dinere-diretso ko na,” said Barroga.

The HD Spikers overwhelmed the Lifesavers in each of the last three sets, quickly building double-digit leads to put the match away.

“Proud ako kasi hindi sumasama ‘yung loob nila. Nakita nila na effective ‘yung adjustment so nage-enjoy lang sila para manalo ‘yung team,” added Barroga, who is also the head coach of the NU Bullpups.

Erica Wilson continued to lead Cignal HD with 21 points while Ana Artemeva managed 18.

Generika’s Thai import Som Kuthaisong tallied 13 points, 10 digs, and 14 excellent receptions while captain Angeli Araneta added 12.

Cignal (3-1) faces United VC (2-2) on Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre. Generika (0-3) also faces UVC on Saturday at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center.
