Trisha Tubu continues to solidify her status as one of the fastest-rising stars in the Premier Volleyball League, showcasing her incredible potential and talent with each passing game.
The former Adamson standout, now a key piece for the Farm Fresh Foxies, delivered a masterful performance on Saturday night at the PhilSports Arena. Tubu unleashed a 21-point explosion to power the Foxies to a stunning 25-23, 25-21, 25-14 sweep over the heavily favored Akari Chargers, marking Farm Fresh’s first win in the 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference.
Tubu’s brilliance wasn’t just in her impressive scoreline but also in her efficiency. The 24-year-old fired 18 kills on 36 attempts, recording a remarkable 50% attack rate, while also contributing three solid blocks. Her stellar outing earned her the PVL Press Corps Player of the Week honors for November 26-30, presented by Pilipinas Live.
In a competitive field of nominees, Tubu edged out Cignal’s Gel Cayuna and Jackie Acuña, Capital1’s Heather Guino-o, ZUS Coffee’s Chinnie Arroyo, Chery Tiggo’s Cess Robles, and PLDT’s Savi Davison to claim the weekly award. The selection was made by print and online journalists covering the league, which streams live and on-demand via the Pilipinas Live app and at www.pvl.ph.
Despite her individual accolades, Tubu was quick to credit her teammates and coaching staff for her success. She acknowledged the collective effort that fueled Farm Fresh’s much-needed breakthrough victory.
“Super, super proud sa bawa’t isa kasi tulad ng sabi ni coach sa’min, hindi isa o dalawa ‘yung gagalaw, kailangan buong team,” Tubu shared after the match. “Kaya ayun, nag-work naman, kaya thankful kami kay God kasi nag-work ‘yung plan ni coach, and nagtiwala lang din kami sa sistema and bawa’t isa.”
Farm Fresh’s victory not only ended their winless streak against Akari—who had defeated them in all three previous meetings—but also lifted their record to 1-2 in this six-month-long tournament organized by Sports Vision.
Tubu, stepping up to fill offensive gaps left by sidelined spikers Jolina Dela Cruz and veteran recruit Rachel Anne Daquis, emphasized the importance of their first victory as a stepping stone for the team.
“Hopefully, itong win na ito, maging ito ‘yung talagang motivation namin para sa mga next games namin,” she added, expressing optimism for the road ahead.
With momentum on its side, Farm Fresh is setting its sights on their next challenge against sister team ZUS Coffee, who is currently on a hot streak.
The two teams are set to clash next Thursday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
