PVL: Galanza shows out in Laguna as Creamline cruises past Cignal

SANTA ROSA, LAGUNA — Creamline stayed undefeated in three games with Cignal its latest victim, 25-18, 22-25, 25-22, 25-12, in the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex here on Saturday.

Jema Galanza, who hails from San Pedro, Laguna, flashed her best form in the season-ending conference of the league organized by Sports Vision, with 17 points on 14 attacks, two blocks, and a service ace laced with 17 digs.

“Happy lang din ako kasi nanood ‘yung family ko, ngayon lang din sila nakanood kaya parang ganado rin maglaro,” said the 25-year-old hometown hero.

The HD Spikers made their fight back from six points down with a 7-2 run to inch within one, 22-23, but an off-the-block kill by Yeliz Basa and an error from Ces Molina gave Creamline the 2-1 set advantage.

An 8-1 blast allowed the Cool Smashers to pull away in the fourth period, turning an 11-9 close fight into a 19-10 breakaway.

“Thankful kami kasi nakarecover kami sa second set, buti nag respond ‘yung team so nakuha namin ‘yung panalo,” said Creamline coach Sherwin Meneses.

Turkish import Basa added 14 points, while middle blockers Ced Domingo and Jeanette Panaga chimed in nine and eight points, respectively.

Jia De Guzman orchestrated Creamline’s balanced offense with 25 excellent sets, while Kyla Atienza took care of the defense with 21 digs.

The Cool Smashers kept in step with Chery Tiggo on top of the leaderboard at 3-0, while the HD Spikers fell to a three-way tie for fifth with F2 Logistics and PLDT at 1-2.
