PVL: Chery Tiggo takes early lead, shocks Cignal

Mylene Paat and Cza Carandang joined hands as Chery Tiggo picked up its second consecutive win after taking down Cignal in four sets, 25-23, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20 in the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference, Saturday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.

Paat delivered a team-high 19 points while Carandang added 14 points on 12 attacks, an ace, and a block in the victory that helped the Crossovers take the early lead in the standings with a 2-0 card.

The former also provided the team a huge lift in the fourth set, scoring six big points in a 10-2 blast to give Chery Tiggo a 20-12 advantage.

Tai Bierria and Rachel Daquis answered back with an 8-3 rally to trim the lead to just three, 20-23, but Jelena Cvijovic took matters into her own hands and fired two consecutive points to complete the win.

The Montenegrin import bounced back from a six-point performance in her debut and finished with 12 points and 17 excellent receptions while EJ Laure had 11 points and 10 excellent digs.

Cignal missed the services of middle blocker Ria Meneses, who is still recovering from a knee injury, and Jerrili Malabanan for the second straight game.

Chery Tiggo will face Akari on Tuesday at 2:30 PM while Cignal will take on Creamline on Saturday at 5:30 PM.
