For Poy Erram, he simply didn’t want to let his teammates down upon his return to the Blackwater Elite after a fruitful 2018 Asian Games stint. So in their match versus San Miguel Beermen on Wednesday, he delivered.
The 6-foot-7 slotman came up clutch, draining pressure-packed free throws in the dying seconds with ease to help the Elite stun the Beermen, 103-100, to collect their second straight victory in the 2018 Governors’ Cup.
“Gusto ko lang talaga manalo.
“Ayaw ko mapahiya sa team ko eh, pagbalik ko tapos ile-let down ko pa sila. Gusto ko talaga ma-shoot yung dalawang free throw, luckily pumasok,” said Erram, who had 10 point and nine rebounds.
Only a few expected the Elite to come out on top knowing how dreaded the Beermen are even if they are still missing the services of four-time MVP June Mar Fajardo due to a fractured shin. But, the Elite did so in dramatic fashion.
“Kailangan talaga manalo eh. Last game namin bago yung break sa FIBA, syempre gusto ko makatulong para maganda yung break namin, hindi na namin iisipin. Pag matalo kami ang dami iisipin di ba,” said Erram.
“Ngayon break kami, maganda vibe namin.”
The Blackwater that has been playing in the season-ending tilt so far is different from the ones that played in the 2018 Commissioner’s Cup, where they only finished 1-10. For Erram, last conference only made them become better
And so far, they’re showing it in the court — their 2-0 start attests to that.
“Yung 1-10 pa lang motivation na namin yun eh. Yung mga mistakes namin sana ma-improve and ma-convert namin sa wins. Sabi nga ni coach kanina, ito yung panibagong chance namin,” said the 15th overall pick of the 2013 Draft.
“For us, sobrang maganda yung panalo namin, kasi pinaghirapan namin.”
