The Philippines will be looking to follow up on its successful stagings of the last two editions of the FIVB Volleyball Nations League with no less than the biggest stage of volleyball.
The Philippine National Volleyball Federation announced that it will be bidding to host the 2025 FIVB Women’s World Championship.
“I would like to officially announce that we are bidding for the 2025 Women’s World Championships,” said federation president Ramon ‘Tats’ Suzara.
The federation will formally make its bid next week with Suzara personally going to Poland.
“Five countries are bidding for this: us, Thailand – which has a team, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Indonesia. FIVB invited us to the first big meeting in Gdansk, Poland during the VNL Men’s Finals to discuss this, and if get to win the bid – we will have the 16 teams here for the group phase, and two other pools will have their group phase in other two countries,” he continued.
Suzara expressed his confidence in such an endeavor, citing how the FIVB and the Volleyball World appreciate how the country shows itself as a host of the Nations League – the biggest factor of which is the enthusiastic volleyball fans.
Starting in 2025, the Worlds will feature 32 squads vying for the title instead of the usual 24 from the previous editions.
The last time the Philippines qualified for the Women’s Worlds was in 1974 in Mexico, where the side finished in 18th place.
