Philippines survives Kazakhstan, finishes in ninth place

The Philippines Women’s National Volleyball Team passed their final test of the AVC Seniors Cup for Women, outlasting Kazakhstan in five sets, 25-13, 23-25, 25-22, 17-25, 15-8 in Thailand.

After surrendering the fourth set, the Philippines blew past the Kazakhs in the final frame thanks to Cha Cruz-Behag. The F2 Logistics Cargo Mover scored four times in a run that pushed the Nationals to a 13-7 gap. From there, an Alyssa Valdez attack and a Kazakhstan error spelled the end of the match.

Mylene Paat led the Nationals with 18 points off 12 attacks, four aces, and two blocks. Valdez finished with 17 markers while Cruz-Behag added 16.

Dynara Syzdykova and Dyana Grokhotova topped Kazakhstan with 16 points each.

The Philippines salvaged a ninth place finish, beating Kazakhstan for the second time in the tournament. This is also one place lower than their eighth-place showing in the 2017 edition of the tournament.
