The Philippine practical shooting team put on a masterclass in precision and speed, delivering four gold medals for Team Philippines at the Southeast Asian Games on Monday.
World champion Rolly Tecson led the charge, clinching the men’s standard event in commanding fashion. He was joined on the top of the podium by Edcel Gino (men’s production optics), Erin Micor (women’s open), and Genesis Pible (women’s production optics).
Tecson, who was crowned IPSC Handgun World Shoot champion last August in South Africa, tallied a score of 1,680.7889 across 18 grueling stages over three days, showcasing the speed and precision that have made him a world-class marksman.
Fellow Filipino shooter Khalil Viray finished second in the standard event but was ineligible for a medal due to the SEA Games’ one-medal-per-country rule.
Gino also impressed with a score of 1,654.0344 to secure the men’s production optics gold, while Micor accumulated 1,399.3154 for the women’s open crown.
Pible rounded out the sweep with 1,293.7900 in the women’s production optics, completing a clean sweep for the Philippines.
The golds came after a minor controversy on Sunday, when results temporarily showed four Philippine golds awarded prematurely.
The organizers clarified that Monday’s finals at the Shooting Range, Huamark Sports Complex were simply the formal conclusion of the event.
