BATANGAS CITY — Coming off a stunning five-set loss to Nxled, Petro Gazz vented its frustration on Galeries Tower with a convincing 25-23, 25-20, 25-18 sweep to notch its first win in the 2025 PVL On Tour, Sunday at the Batangas City Sports Center here.
The Angels had been reeling from the previous day after falling to the Lyann De Guzman-led Chameleons, 23-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-25, 10-15.
However, they quickly bounced back with a composed and calculated performance to enter the Pool A win column with a 1-1 slate.
Petro Gazz had to dig deep in the extended third set, clawing back from a 20-23 deficit after back-to-back errors from the Highrisers. Nicole Tiamzon tied the set at 23 with a crucial block, then followed it up with a crosscourt attack off the block to bring the Angels to match point.
Jewel Encarnacion answered with a clutch kill to extend the set, but an untimely service error on the next play handed Petro Gazz another chance to close. Tiamzon seized the moment, firing a game-winning crosscourt hit to seal the victory after an hour and 38 minutes of action.
“Ngayon kasi, yung bawat team ay lumakas this PVL On Tour. Ang nangyari talaga sa first game ay puro adjustment, kasi yung mga rookies namin naga-adjust pa, at wala rin yung main players namin — sina MJ at Brooke,” said veteran spiker Myla Pablo.
“Pero siyempre, kung sino ang nandito, ‘yun ang gagawa ng paraan kung paano namin ihahandle yung team namin this conference.”
Pablo spearheaded the Angels with 14 points, all from attacks. Jonah Sabete contributed 10 points and nearly posted a double-double with nine excellent receptions, while Joy Dacoron added 10 markers built on five attacks, three aces, and two kill blocks.
Setter Djanel Cheng orchestrated the offense with 16 excellent sets and chipped in two points. Baby Love Barbon, who exited late in the third set due to a hyperextended left knee, provided stability in floor defense with eight excellent digs and 10 excellent receptions.
The Angels will enjoy a nearly two-week break before resuming their campaign in Ilagan, Isabela against PLDT on July 12.
Meanwhile, Ysa Jimenez led the Highrisers with 13 points off 11 attacks and two blocks, along with eight excellent digs. Roselle Baliton added 10 points, including three kill blocks, while Encarnacion, a native of Laurel, chipped in nine.
After a stellar debut on Saturday with 16 points against Choco Mucho, Jean Asis was limited to just six points in this outing.
Galeries will try to halt its two-game losing skid when it battles Nxled on July 15.
