PBA D-League: Jollo Go powers Marinerong Pilipino’s escape of St. Clare

Marinerong Pilipino returned to the win column, surviving Adalem Construction-St. Clare, 76-71, in the 2022 PBA D-League Aspirants Cup, Tuesday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

Knotted at 66 after a Bam Lopez split from the line, Jollo Go gave the Skippers the lead after a quick release triple with 2:52 left.

Warren Bonifacio followed it up with a putback before Go made two freebies to give Marinero a seven-point margin with 1:35 to go, 73-66.

“Masaya kami na nanalo kami pero still ang dami pa ring lapses,” lamented Skippers head coach Yong Garcia. “Gaya nga ng sinasabi ko sa kanila palagi, kailangan everytime na tatapak kayo sa court ibigay niyo yung best effort niyo, hindi puwedeng 80 percent, 90 percent, kailangan 100 percent.”

Go led the Skippers off the bench with 19 points founded on four triples with five rebounds while also committing six turnovers.

Kemark Cariño chimed in 12 points, eight rebounds, and four blocks, while Juan Gomez de Liaño had 11 points, four rebounds, and four assists.

Marinero (3-1) will have AMA Online on July 26, 11 am, at the same venue.

Lopez topscored for the Saints with 16 points on 15 shots, while John Rojas supplied 15 points.

Babacar Ndong got 21 rebounds and five blocks as well but only had two points.

St. Clare (2-2) will next battle the luckless Builders Warehouse-University of Santo Tomas on Thursday, 10:30 am, at SMART Araneta Coliseum.

Marinerong Pilipino 76 — Go 19, Carino 12, Gomez de Liano 11, Hernandez 10, Nocum 9, Bonifacio 8, Gamboa 4, Agustin 2, Bonsubre 1, Pido 0, Lacap 0, Garcia 0.
