Alvin Pasaol led Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3’s escape of Vietnam, 19-14, to sweep the four-game elimination round of the Jakarta 3×3 International Invitational Challenge 2019, Saturday.
Holding a two-point lead 16-14 with two minutes left, Pasaol scored three straight buckets to stave off the Vietnamese, who were one of the favorites in the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
The second-ranked 3×3 player in the country had a tournament-high 13 points in the game.
Behind Joshua Munzon — who acted as playmaker in the contest — the Philippines led by as much as six points, 14-8.
The trio of Chris Dierker, Justin Young, and Thanh Tam Dinh stormed back, cutting the lead down to two. Fortunately, though, Pasaol heated up late for the Philippines, which only had three deuces in the contest.
Santillan had three points in the game, while Troy Rike added two. Munzon was held down to just a solitary point.
Vietnam ended its campaign with an even 2-2 slate.
The Philippines takes on Indonesia in the finale. The Chooks All-Stars defeated the host, 21-13 (9:13), during the elims.
