Dzi Gervacio shrugs off Nxled’s lottery setback, says draft pool is loaded


What should have been a night of triumph quickly turned into a twist of fate — but Nxled team manager Dzi Gervacio is choosing to embrace the silver linings.

With the best odds at landing the No. 1 overall pick — holding a 40-percent chance — Nxled entered Monday night’s Premier Volleyball League Draft Lottery brimming with hope.

Instead, the Chameleons slipped all the way to the fourth spot in a surprising outcome that caught many off guard.

“It’s crazy. Oh my God, nanginginig ako,” said Gervacio after the event, held at the TV5 Media Center in Mandaluyong. “But yeah, coming into today’s lottery, at the back of my mind, I knew—it’s still a lottery.

“The chances, you never really know what could happen. But at the end of the day, landing at number four is still a good position.”

While missing out on the top pick was far from ideal, Gervacio remained hopeful, citing the depth and potential of this year’s rookie pool as a major reason for optimism heading into the PVL Rookie Draft on June 8.

“Of course, it’s not the most favorable result for the Nxled Chameleons,” she admitted. “But I really believe this will be a deep draft class. I’m excited to see who officially makes it onto the draft list for PVL 2025.”

With their draft position now set, Gervacio and the Chameleons’ coaching staff — led by Italian head coach Ettore Guidetti — are now turning their full attention to scouting and preparation.

“We’ve been preparing even before tonight, even before we knew we had a shot at the first pick,” she said.

“At the end of the day, this is a lottery. It’s all chance — no one controls the outcome.”

Still, Gervacio assured fans that the team will be ready come draft night.

“We’ve been working on identifying who best fits our system, no matter where we landed in the order,” she added.

“We’ll be ready once that final list comes out on June 4.”
