PacificTown-Army evens series with BanKo, keeps bronze hopes alive

Kungfu Reyes returned to PacificTown-Army’s helm just in time to provide support for the back-to-the-wall Lady Troopers, Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Troopers dispatched the BanKo Perlas Spikers, 25-23, 20-25, 25-20, 25-23, in Game Two of the 2019 PVL Reinforced Conference battle for third series, at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

“Definitely, masaya dahil nanalo pero hindi mo inaasahan na yung laban ang taas ng level. Both teams panalo sa laro na ‘to kasi nagi-exceed na sa expectation yung level ng competitiveness as a whole tapos makikita mo ang team mo kasama doon sa level ng pag-angat,” Reyes beamed.

With the win, the Lady Troopers evened the series count at 1-all.

Holding a 2-1 lead in sets, the PacificTown-Army looked to slam the door shut in the fourth frame as the Lady Troopers raced to a five-point cushion at the second technical timeout.

Behind their net and floor defense, the Perlas Spikers tied things up at 22-all. As momentum swung towards BanKo’s side, Olena Lymareva-Flink disrupted the tempo with an off-the-block hit before delivering the match-clincher.

Royse Tubino topped PacificTown-Army with a game-high 23 points built on 20 attacks and three aces.

Lymareva-Flink also had a fine outing of her own, scoring 21 points laced with 13 excellent receptions while Jenelle Jordan poured in 17 points, three of which coming from blocks.

Jovelyn Gonzaga delivered an all-around performance yet again, tallying six points spiked by two blocks, 15 excellent digs, and 13 excellent receptions. Alina Bicar tossed 19 excellent sets.

BanKo, on the other hand, had all but one attacker in the scoring department. Sudatda Chuewulim led the Perlas Spikers with 14 points, three of which coming from aces, to go along 13 excellent receptions and 10 excellent digs.

Kathy Bersola provided five blocks en route to 13 points while Dzi Gervacio supplied 12 points with four blocks to her name. Tiamzon also notched 12 markers on top of 12 excellent digs.

In case Creamline, which holds a 1-0 series edge in the championship bout, completes a sweep of Petro Gazz later in the day, the winner of the battle for third will be determined via FIVB tiebreak. Otherwise, Game Three will be played on July 14, tomorrow at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo.
