Paat’s effort goes for naught as Nakhon drops first VTL playoff game


Nakhon Ratchasima QminC fell short against Diamond Food in four sets, 16-25, 25-16, 15-25, 29-27, in the 2021-22 Volleyball Thailand League Final Four, Friday at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok.

Mylene Paat and Dindin Santiago-Manabat both started the game in the opposite and open, respectively.

However, Prapatsorn Kongudom replaced Manabat and the latter was used sparingly from the second set onwards. When fielded in, the 6-foot-3 import replaces Paat in the opposite.

The Adamson University product unleashed a team-high 14 points while Manabat only got three points in limited action.

Knotted at 27 after a down-the-line hit by Paat, Kongudom committed a service error to give Diamond Food the match point before Thanacha Sooksod finished the game with an off-the-block kill.

Trailing 8-9 in the second frame, Nakhon Ratchasima blasted it wide open with a 12-2 run en route to a 25-16 victory, their lone set of the match.

Brazilian import Fernanda Tome, who did not play much in the first two sets, exploded in the last two periods and ended with a game-high 15 points for Diamond Food.

Sooksod chipped in 14 points while Cuban reinforcement Leanny Castañeda added 12 points.

Patcharaporn Sittisad backed Paat with 14 points of her own while Kongudom, who got the place of Manabat, tallied 13 points.

Chitaporn Kamlangmak had six blocks in the match and finished with 10 points in the losing cause.

Nakhon Ratchasima slid to 0-1 alongside Khonkaen Star in the Final Four round. It also sank to 0-7 against the teams in the playoffs this season.
