Team Lakay has picked up where Carlos Alvarez left off, as the La Trinidad, Benguet-based mixed martial arts stable’s latest prospect scored an emphatic victory in his debut under the ONE Championship banner.
Carlo Bumina-ang trounced Iran’s Reza Saedi in the opening bantamweight bout at ONE Friday Fights 27, which took place at the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday.
Proving that his teammates are no tough act to follow on the global stage, the 29-year-old Baguio City native needed only 52 seconds to get the job done and improve his professional record to 2-0.
“This feels so good. It’s my first time here, and the people here are so nice, I’m so grateful I pulled it off and got the KO win, I’m so happy,” an excited Bumina-ang told commentator Gianni Subba.
“It took me five years to get here and it truly feels great.”
From the southpaw stance, the two-time Southeast Asian Games medalist wobbled his lanky opponent with a hard left straight, sending Saedi crisscrossing around the ring due to the impact of the blow.
Bumina-ang seized the opportunity, charging in with a knee to the jaw before drilling a torrent of harrowing punches as Saedi defenselessly crouched and waited for referee Herb Dean to step in and save him from the punishment.
Saedi tasted his first career defeat with the loss to Bumina-ang, dropping to a 1-1 slate.
Bumina-ang’s scintillating victory will play a huge role in setting the momentum for Team Lakay as Jhanlo Sangiao is scheduled to lock horns with Mongolia’s Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu at ONE Fight Night 13 on Saturday, August 5.
The legendary camp could finish its ongoing campaign in Bangkok with a 2-0 outing if Sangiao pulls off the win against perhaps his toughest foe to date.
