Jhanlo Sangiao has already established his status as one of mixed martial arts’ most promising talents today, and his next assignment under the ONE Championship banner will determine if he is ripe to figure in a much higher level of competition in the bantamweight division.
Tiebreaker Times has learned from a reliable source that the 20-year-old phenom from La Trinidad, Benguet will return to action on the undercard of ONE Fight Night 13, emanating from the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on August 5.
The eldest son of Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao owns a pristine professional record of 6-0 with a 100-percent finishing rate—five wins by way of submission and one via knockout.
Moreover, he has aced three-straight matches in ONE Championship since he made his promotional debut in December 2021, winning all of them by first-round submission.
It is worth recalling that his last two matches garnered him $50,000 performance bonuses for toppling Anacleto “L.A.” Lauron in December 2022 and Matias Farinelli this past April in rousing fashion.
The man standing in Sangiao’s ascent up the stacked weight class is Mongolia’s Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu, who has won his last two bouts on the organization’s main roster against Filipino contingents.
Baatarkhuu, the grand winner of Road To ONE: Mongolia who has a 9-2 standing in the sport, subjected Sangiao’s stablemate Adonis Sevilleno to a one-sided beatdown last April en route to a clear-cut unanimous decision to begin his run on a high note.
The protégé of former ONE featherweight champion Narantungalag Jadambaa followed it up with a first-round demolition of Rockie Bactol back in May.
Both Sangiao and Baatarkhuu have proven their mettle in previous fights, but this three-round encounter will undoubtedly be a pivotal moment in their careers as a victory for either competitor will help them inch closer to entering the bantamweight Top Five.
ONE Fight Night 13 is headlined by Chingiz Allazov, defending his ONE featherweight kickboxing title versus arch-nemesis Marat Grigorian.
Meanwhile, Brazilian jiu-jitsu legend Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida is set to take on heavyweight stalwart Oumar “Reug Reug” Kane under MMA rules in the co-main event.
