After spending most of the University of the East’s UAAP Season 85 on the bench, Noy Remogat took charge of a depleted Red Warriors squad and never looked back.
With mainstays like Luis Villegas, Gani Stevens, and Nico and Kyle Paranada departing from Jack Santiago’s squad, Noy Remogat stepped into Season 86 as Santiago’s undisputed go-to guy, and the 5-foot-10 point guard flourished.
Remogat led the Sampaloc-based squad with 16.50 points, 6.37 rebounds, 7.86 assists, and 2.00 steals, making the leap from a backup guard to an MVP candidate in just one season.
Unfortunately for Remogat, he and his squad fell short of a final four campaign once more, but that did not stop the young floor general from ending the season with a bang.
In UE’s final game against Adamson University, Remogat and the Red Warriors nearly ruined the Soaring Falcons’ shot at the final four, pushing Adamson to the brink of elimination before a game-winning three from Mathew Montebon sealed the 73-71 win for the Blue and White.
Amid the thriller, Remogat finished with a near triple-double of 16 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists—a perfect way to cap off his incredible season.
“Para sa akin sa season ko, maganda eh. Better kumpara sa last season ko. Sobrang blessed ko rin kahit hindi kami nakapasok ng final four, pero sa part ko sobrang laki ng blessings na nangyari sa akin eh. Sa bench ako last year, tapos this season naging first five ako. Sobrang saya ng season na ito even though hindi kami naka-Final Four,” said the 20-year-old Remogat to Tiebreaker Times.
“Siyempre sobrang thankful ako kay Coach Jack na binigyan niya ako ng chance na makapag-lead ng team, tapos binigyan niya ako chance na mapakita yung talent ko na ilang taon kong pinahirapan, pandemic, before pandemic, binigyan niya akong chance na ipakita yung talent ko. Sobrang thankful ako kay coach, sa staff, na binigyan nila ako ng chance.”
Given the early end to their season, Remogat planned to get back to work right away to prepare for the Red Warriors’ campaign in Season 87.
“Ngayon offseason pahinga lang ako ng one week then after that back to work na ulit for next season kasi, yun nga, laglag na kami pero yung ibang team naglalaro pa so sino ba kami para magpahinga ng sobrang sobra. Siguro pahinga ng one week, bonding with family, then after balik na ulit,” said the sophomore, who will be next year’s skipper.
Before he was swarmed by a sea of red shirts waiting to ask for photos and signatures, Remogat made sure the UE community knew what to expect from him and his squad as they bid farewell to Season 86.
“Expect nila sa amin na during this off-season talagang, kung ano yung hard work na ginawa namin this season mas dodoblehin namin para at least coming into Season 87 mayroon kaming i-prove sa sarili namin, sa team namin, at sa kanila.”
The Red Warriors now look ahead to a brand new season, and with Remogat there to lead the way, the future for UE looks brighter than ever before.
