Noy Remogat on seeing UE on the floor again: ‘Nakakabagbag sa puso’

Hearing and singing the “UE Hymn” after a long time struck an emotional chord with Noy Remogat.

Once a standout for the Red Warriors and a UAAP Season 86 Mythical Team member, Remogat now finds himself on the other side – playing for University of the Philippines.

The Fighting Maroons secured an 81-71 win over the Red Warriors, improving to 2-0 in Season 87 on Saturday night at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

“Nakakabagbag sa puso,” said the 5-foot-10 combo guard serving his residency with the Fighting Maroons.

“Yung puso ko parang pinipisil na naiisip ko yung dati, pero yun nga, focus sa present kung nasaan ako ngayon para maganda yung future,” he added as he is eligibile to play in Seasons 88 to 89.

Unlike future transferees, Remogat – who enrolled at UP during the second semester of 2023-24 – is not subject to the new UAAP residency rule.

The new policy will require athletes moving between member schools to sit out one year and forfeit two years of eligibility.

This rule, effective June 1, 2024, will not affect Remogat, as he transferred to UP in late January 2024.

Despite some criticism after his transfer, Remogat said his interactions with his former Red Warriors teammates went smoothly.

“Okay naman sa players, okay naman… Siguro yun lang ang pwede kong masabi,” he said.

Having spent two productive years with UE, Remogat admitted that being on the opposite side felt strange. However, he’s eager to return to the UAAP next year and face his former team on the court.

“Nakakapanibago kasi two years doon ako naglaro sa kanila eh. Pero yung feeling ngayon, alam mo yung gusto kong makatulong sa team namin sa UP,” said the heir to JD Cagulangan’s throne once he graduates.

“Siguro may halong excitement saka medyo gigil kasi alam mo yun, ang haba ng isang taon na upo eh para sa athlete.”
