Chris Miller hardly felt surprised after his selection by San Miguel during the first round of the PBA Season 50 Draft on Sunday.
Although he wasn’t among the bigger names in the 2025 class, the 32-year-old combo guard believes that he landed right where he’s “supposed to be.”
“No. Wherever I was chosen is where I’m supposed to be,” the Fil-American cager told reporters during the proceedings at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall.
Miller was picked ninth overall by the league’s most successful franchise, which left some in awe as he wasn’t projected as a first-rounder in various mock drafts.
But there’s no denying that he’s one of the most experienced guys in this batch, having been playing professionally for over a decade now in a career that’s seen him play in Bosnia, Canada, Germany, and the USA.
Add to that his solid showings during the recent Draft Combine at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig, in which he ruled the Three-Point Shootout before helping Team D1-San Miguel reach the showcase’s tournament Final.
Those factors apparently were enough to woo the Beermen staff led by Coach Leo Austria; they went on to use their No. 9 pick on him.
Miller, needless to say, couldn’t be any happier to be chosen by a traditional powerhouse, eager to prove his worth 1 and be of help any way he can.
“Anytime you can come to a league and be expected to compete for a championship is great,” said the Salem University alumnus.
“Whatever role that they want me to do I’ll be very happy with. And, I understand that they have a winning culture, so I just wanna add to that.”
