Nonito Donaire Jr. puts on clinic in comeback fight

Four-division world champion Nonito Donaire, Jr. (38-4, 24KO) looked unstoppable in his comeback fight against Ruben Hernandez (22-3-1) romping the Mexican in a unanimous decision win (100-90, 97-93, 99-91), Sunday morning at the Alomodome in San Antonio, Texas.

This was his first fight since losing to Jessie Magdaleno last November. Moreover, the vacant WBC Silver Featherweight Title was on the line.

“I boxed very well, which is something I haven’t done in a long time,” beamed the 34-year-old. “I moved my legs well and maintained it throughout the whole fight.”

It was apparent who was the more diverse fighter right from the get-go.

Hernandez — who has been on a tear, racking up seven impressive victories in a row — could not solve the puzzle that is the Filipino Flash, even if he stayed in the pocket, pushed the pace.

“Nonito was very smooth and moved around well. I couldn’t get to him because of that. He adjusted to everything I did. It was a fair decision at the end of the night,” admitted Hernandez

Donaire left no doubt in the minds of the judges in the final round, sealing the clinic with an impressive last three minutes.

With a reincarnated enthusiasm under the the new promotional outfit, Ringstar Sports, there is no doubt that Donaire is zooming in on a potential crack at any of the titles in the featherweight division.
