Nonito Donaire has been removed from the main event of Showtime Boxing’s event on December 19 in Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut as the Filipino-American tested positive for COVID-19.
In a report by Boxing Scene, Donaire (40-6, 26 KOs) will be replaced by compatriot Reymart Gaballo (23-0, 20 KOs) in a bout against Emmanuel Rodriguez (19-1, 12 KOs).
There is no news if the fight will be for the WBC World Bantamweight Championship.
The main event of the bout has been marred by positive COVID-19 tests.
Donaire, the mandatory challenger for the 118-pound belt of the WBC, was supposed to face champion Nordine Oubaali, but the Frenchman tested positive for the virus.
Now, Donaire has withdrawn as well.
