NCAA 98: Ramirez joins hands with Zareno as Perpetual crushes JRU


University of Perpetual Help System DALTA made it back-to-back wins in the NCAA Season 98 Men’s Volleyball Tournament, on Tuesday at the San Andres Sports Complex in Manila, this time sweeping Jose Rizal University, 25-16, 25-20, 25-11.

The Altas improved their record to 2-0 while the Heavy Bombers are still in search of their first win with a record of 0-2.

Leading the way for Perpetual was usual suspect Louie Ramirez, who put up an impressive 18 points off of 17 attacks.

John Enarciso also had a notable contribution to the win with 18 excellent digs.

The Altas controlled the game from start to finish, not giving the Heavy Bombers any chance to steal a set.

In the third set, Perpetual led by as much as 14 points several times, with Kobe Tabuga’s attack sealing the deal at 24-10, crushing JRU’s hopes of a comeback.

Supporting Ramirez was Joshua Zareno, who tallying 14 points on 11 attacks, two aces, and a block.

Matthew Miguel was the top scorer for JRU with eight points, while Kenneth Daynata added 12 excellent receptions.

Earlier in the day, Mapua University opened its season on a high note with a three-set sweep of Lyceum of the Philippines University, 25-12, 25-13, 25-19.

Despite a better showing from the Pirates in the third set, the Cardinals took advantage of their early lead to secure the win.

John Benedict San Andres led the charge for the Cardinals with 15 points, including nine from attacks, five aces, and one block.

Alvin Macadangdang also had an impressive game, contributing 10 points, a pair of blocks, and four excellent digs.

None of the Pirates were able to score in double digits, with Josue Velasco leading the team with eight points and seven attacks. Kier Tibayan and Harvie Dizon also chipped in five points each.

Mapua starts the season with a 1-0 record while Lyceum falls to 0-1.
