Colegio de San de Letran dominated archrival San Beda-Taytay, taking a 94-68 rout for its second win in the NCAA Season 98 Juniors Basketball Tournament, Friday at Emilio Aguinaldo College Gym.
The Squires showed that they are more than just an Andy Gemao team as Emman Anabo and Jonathan Manalili shone brightly in the one-sided affair.
Anabo put up 24 points and 11 rebounds while Manalili tallied 22 points, six assists, four rebounds, two blocks, and a steal. Gemao was not left behind, finishing with 10 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
“Well sabi nga nila very historic yung rivalry mg Letran and San Beda. Matalo ka na sa lahat wag lang sa San Beda, well that’s how we prepared things, mentally and physically,” said Letran head coach Allen Ricardo.
The Squires overcame the Red Cubs 15-31 early in the second quarter and were able to tie by the end of the first half at 41.
From there, Letran did not look back and scored 53 points in the next two quarters while limiting San Beda to just 27.
The Squires also dominated the bench production with an absurd 69 points compared to the Red Cubs’ 19.
Andrei Dungo led San Beda with 16 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.
Christopher Hubilla, who dropped 29 points in their win over Lyceum-Cavite last Wednesday, finished with 13 points.
In the final game of the day, young Rion Porcadas lifted San Sebastian College-Recoletos over Arellano University 72-69.
With 24 seconds remaining in the payoff period, Porcadas hit a huge top-of-the-key triple to shatter the deadlock, 72-69.
Coming off a timeout, the Braves weren’t able to take the shot as they were called for a shot clock violation thanks to the Staglets’ disciplined defense.
“Actually I challenged nga yon eh. Kasi nung first game namin, zero out of six siya wala siyang nashoot. Eh he’s the starting point guard samin so chinallenge ko lang. Sabi ko hindi ko naman inaantay yung magandang laro mo. Just take your shots everytime you are free sabi ko sa kanya. Kaya nag deliver naman yung bata siguro inaccept niya yung challenge na binigay ko sa kanya,” said San Sebastian head tactician Juan Miguel Martin.
Ernest Geronimo paced the 1-1 Staglets with 20 points, five rebounds, and seven assists, while Porcadas added 12 markers, three boards and five dimes.
Xyrill Jalalon got 16 points, six rebounds, and five dimes while James Moore added 14 points and nine boards for the Braves, who fell to 0-2.
