Mighty Sports 2010-11 spoils AcroCity 2021’s storybook finish in XABL

Mighty Sports Batch 2010-2011 dashed AcroCity MEC Batch 2021’s hopes for a storybook finish, securing a commanding 91-77 victory to claim the 2024 Xavier Alumni Basketball League title on Sunday, Dec. 1, at the Xavier School Sports Center in Greenhills, San Juan City.

In a clash between sister teams, Batch 2010-2011 proved to be sharper, steadier, and more composed, fending off multiple comeback attempts by their younger counterparts in the country’s longest-running alumni basketball league.

Leading the charge for Mighty Sports was Harold Ng, who delivered a rare triple-double performance with 39 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists, earning him the Finals MVP honors.

Ng received ample support from Angelo Wongchuking and Philex Yao, who chipped in 13 points apiece, cementing the team’s dominant display that thwarted AcroCity MEC’s bid to become the youngest squad to win the tournament.

The title marks the 14th championship for the Mighty Sports organization in this prestigious league.

“Everyone who took part in this tournament for our dear school is also a winner. Congratulations to everyone,” said Caesar Wongchuking, head of the Mighty Sports organization.

On the opposing side, former PBA player Jarrel Lim paced AcroCity MEC – the latest development estate in Guiguinto, Bulacan – with 31 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

Meanwhile, Joseph Yeo and Keith Wongchuking combined for 27 points in a valiant but ultimately unsuccessful effort.

The AcroCity estate features a 3-star hotel, a fine dining restaurant, a wellness center, and logistics warehousing, underscoring its prominence as a modern development.

Mighty Sports’ legacy extends beyond the local league.

Before taking a break, the organization actively competed overseas, capturing the Jones Cup in 2016 and 2019 and making history as the first non-Middle Eastern team to win the Dubai Invitational Championships in 2020.
