Meralco is looking to tap Prince Ibeh for the East Asia Super League (EASL).
Head coach Luigi Trillo said that the Bolts are keen on adding the 6-foot-10 big man, especially with the Bolts facing Ryukyu for their first game of the season.
The Golden Kings’ frontcourt feature three-time PBA Best Import Allen Durham and Jack Cooley, as well as Asian Quota signee Carl Tamayo.
Game is on November 15 at the Okinawa Arena.
The former PBA import has already been with the Bolts for days now, but the team is still evaluating its plan of attack for the EASL.
“We’re looking closely at Prince now because our first game is against [Ryukyu] … Their imports are big men,” Trillo said during the PBA Media Day Wednesday.
“But we’ll evaluate and see because the other two teams, like the Taipei team, have a dominant guard. So we’ll evaluate and see how Prince is.”
Ibeh will get a chance to finally play in the EASL after his supposed stint with TNT for the 2023 Champions Week didn’t push through.
Per reports, the 29-year-old out of Texas was not released by his team in Taiwan. The Tropang Giga brought in Daniel Ochefu instead.
Now, Ibeh could be reinforcing a Meralco side that’s coming in as a replacement after Barangay Ginebra begged off from the competition.
The British-Rwandan player is planned to be paired up with Suleiman Braihmoh, who will be the Bolts’ import for the 2023-24 Commissioner’s Cup.
