Maverick Ahanmisi is hoping that he suffered nothing serious after getting hurt late in Barangay Ginebra’s eventual loss to NLEX on Sunday night.
The Kings combo guard felt that he hyper-extended his right shoulder following contact with Road Warriors forward Tony Semerad with about 9.4 seconds left to play, as they all scrambled for the missed jumper of Robert Bolick.
“Still, very tender,” he told reporters moments after the 98-93 defeat at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
“I can move it though, so… it’s not dislocated.”
Ahanmisi was clearly in pain after that very play. He was attended by the medical standby and Ginebra assistant coaches before being subbed out for good.
“I was running in for the rebound, and Semerad ran by and pulled my arm back. That’s what happened. My arm kinda went numb … in the game, that’s why I went down,” recalled the 32-year-old of the sequence.
He left the game with 14 points, a game in which he had the opportunity to turn the tides. Ahanmisi earned three free throws with 32.5 seconds left, when the Kings were staring at a 70-73 deficit. He only sank two.
Ahanmisi and the Barangay, though, no longer have the time to cry over spilled milk. They must now set their sights on the quarterfinals against Magnolia.
The crowd darlings have the twice-to-beat advantage in the upcoming chapter of Manila Clasico and they surely want to maximize as much.
Ahsnmisi would want to help his team earn that quick trip to the semis, and that’s why the coming days will be crucial in healing up the soonest.
“I mean, I guess we’ll see in the next couple of days how much better it gets. But I’m just gonna keep icing and doing treatment,” he said.
