In his three decades with the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, Sammy Acaylar has produced numerous titles and even more National Team-level players.
It is Acaylar’s reputation and penchant for success that of his current players. Safe to say, wearing an Altas jersey comes with lofty expectations.
Middle blocker Ronniel Rosales feels especially pressured having to continue the Altas’ line of solid net defenders.
From recent National Team campaigner Bonjomar Castel to past team captain Manuel Doliente, Rosales admits that watching tape of his seniors gives him extra motivation.
Rosales’ game was on full display in the Altas win in Game One of the NCAA Finals. Rosales was on fire during the crucial fifth set, pouring in 19 points in total off 12 attacks, five blocks and two aces against the College of Saint Benilde.
Acaylar sees great potential in Rosales which he feels he can realize. They just have to continue winning championships.
“During our practices, lagi ko siyang napapagalitan. He’s very good, pero sobrang relaxed. Sabi ko lang sa kanya just follow my instructions,” said Acaylar.
Rosales is taking Acaylar’s tough love in stride.
