Alas Women’s Beach team remained unbeaten, while the men’s squad picked up its first win at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games on Sunday at Jomtien Beach in Chonburi, Thailand.

Coming off a dominant victory over Singapore yesterday, the women’s team continued its strong run by sweeping Malaysia, 2-0, for a 3-0 start to the tournament.

Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons overpowered their opponents, dismantling Farziwah Aina Ahmad Nizar and Noor Aisha Iskandar, 21-6, 21-8, for a rousing start.

Meanwhile, Sunny Villapando and Dij Rodriguez completed the sweep with a 21-10, 21-12 triumph over Tasha Mae and Nur Auni Maisarah Shamsulrizal.

The women’s team will aim for a fourth-straight win against Vietnam on Monday at 2:30 PM.

On the men’s side, the Philippines bounced back from an opening-day loss to Vietnam, delivering a lopsided 2-0 win over Laos.

Ronniel Rosales and Rance Vergara opened the scoring with a 21-15, 21-11 victory over Phithak Mingmoon and Chanthaphone Xayyakhom. Then Ranran Abdilla and James Buytrago closed out the match with a 21-13, 21-17 win against Bounmixay Phommachan and Chansabab Chanthongdeng.
