Alas Women Beach sweeps Singapore to go 2-0 at SEA Games

Alas Pilipinas Women Beach continued its strong start, dominating Singapore 2-0 in the beach volleyball event of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games on Saturday at the Sport Arena Jomtien Beach in Chonburi, Thailand.

The victory propelled the Philippines into a tie at the top of the standings with defending champion Thailand and Vietnam, as all three teams hold identical 2-0 records.

Riding the momentum from their big win over Indonesia yesterday, the duos of Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons, along with Sunny Villapando and Dij Rodriguez, delivered impressive performances to secure the sweep.

Rondina and Pons were the first to hit the sands, overpowering Eliza Chong and Tin Wing Chan in straight sets, 21-10, 21-6, to give Alas the early lead.

Villapando and Rodriguez followed, earning their first victory as a pair in the biennial meet by defeating Valerie Lee and Hui Ying Ang, 21-11, 21-8, completing the emphatic win.

Alas Pilipinas will aim for a third straight victory against Malaysia on Sunday at 11:10 AM (Manila time).
