Dumaguete will have a new head coach when it faces MJAS-Zenith on Tuesday in the 2021 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup-Visayas Leg.
University of San Jose–Recoletos head coach Leode Garcia will call the shots for the Warriors moving forward, as he replaces Rommel Vin Abila Uka.
Dumaguete has granted Uka’s release as he struggled with homesickness inside the Alcantara bubble.
For his part, Garcia, who travelled from Siquijor, has already finished his seven-day quarantine last Sunday. He has also tested negative for the coronavirus twice.
The Warriors currently sit at fifth place with a 1-5 slate — half a game ahead of Tubigon Bohol.
Though the mountain he will climb is high, the barrel-chested head coach is embracing the challenge in his first foray in the pros.
“Happy ako kasi hindi ko inexpect na meron biglang mag-hire sa akin as head coach ng isang team,” said Garcia, a former member of the Cebu Gems.
“Para sa akin, malaking exposure ito kasi professional league ito.”
