All Fuel Masters have their fingers crossed after main man Matthew Wright suffered a foot injury.
Phoenix Pulse head coach Louie Alas revealed that the 6-foot-4 swingman got hurt during a practice session prior to their 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup match with Meralco on Sunday evening.
“Kahapon. Actually, nagge-game preparation kami. ‘Di ko na siya ginamit kasi pinapa-check ko sa PT,” Alas said.
“Sabi ko, ‘Just sit down and just watch the game preparation.’
“I hope it’s not worse. Part daw ng plantar eh, so he will go MRI tomorrow. Hopefully, ‘di naman grabe,” he continued.
Wright was still able to play versus the Bolts, though, and was even part of the starting unit. But he only played for over 15 minutes, while Alas sat him out in the fourth quarter.
“Kanina naman okay siya, nung nagwa-warmup siya before the game may naramdaman siyang masakit,” Alas said.
And his absence was definitely a big blow for the Fuel Masters, as they got blown out, 94-111.
Wright cannot seem to catch a break in terms of injuries. He has just recovered from a right ankle injury, which he sustained during one of Gilas Pilipinas’ preps for the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
Wright will undergo an MRI procedure Monday. Alas hopes that they won’t have to deal with something serious.
“Pwedeng bugbog, pwedeng napunit… Hopefully, bugbog lang.”
