Lebron Lopez is not sitting idly as he waits for Gilas Pilipinas’ start of training for the 31st Southeast Asian Games.
The 18-year-old, high-flying winger led Team Havoc in Got Skills’ The Crossover Under-19 tournament presented by Smart that took place this weekend at West Greenhills Gym in San Juan City.
It was a showcase for Lopez, who led Havoc to a four-game romp of the competition — capped by a dominant outing against Team Mabini.
The Gilas pool member tallied 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting with seven assists and six rebounds to lead his side to a 62-32 win.
In prior games, Lopez got six points in 11 minutes of play against Hardwork KGD; produced 13 points in 15 minutes versus Mabini; and 12 points and six rebounds in 15 minutes against Cagsawa Harbor.
Clearly, he was a man amongst boys in the competition.
But it was not just Lopez who shone brightly in the weekend tournament for Havoc.
Drex Delos Reyes, Charles Dimaano, Emmanuel Anabo, George Diamante, and Jhazel Paguiligan also had their share of the spotlight in the competition that had 15-minute halves for each game.
Got Skills tournament director Allen Ricardo is glad that amateur players now have a chance to make up for lost time after the ongoing pandemic stopped competition for two years.
And all his efforts is being put into organizing a national championship tournament, slated for December 2023.
“We are starting to expand to different regions and provinces like Cebu, Bacolod, and Davao that will culminate in a national championship,” said Ricardo.
