Defending champion Abra continued its dominant run in the MPBL 2026 Season, overwhelming Negros, 122-81, on Saturday at the Quezon City District 2 Gymnasium.
The Solid North Weavers led from start to finish and stretched the margin to as much as 54 points, 108-54, on the way to their seventh straight victory and a 9-1 record in the round-robin elimination phase of the 28-team tournament.
Abra’s homegrown talents joined the scoring barrage, led by Georell Gonzales of Bucay, Abra, who fired 23 points built on seven three-pointers while adding two rebounds. He earned Best Player of the Game honors over Encho Serrano, who paced the team with 25 points, and Drex Delos Reyes, who posted a double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds.
Last season’s Rookie of the Year Raven Gonzales contributed 16 points and eight rebounds, while Jake Figueroa added 15 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Josh Asuncion of Tayum, Abra also chipped in 10 points and six rebounds.
Negros fell to 1-8 despite the efforts of Carl Joshua Alattica, who tallied 26 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists. Michael Alvarez added 17 points, while Wilson Baltazar finished with 11 points and six rebounds.
Earlier, Gensan bounced back emphatically from its first loss of the season, routing Paranaque, 126-86, to improve to 11-1.
Still stinging from Wednesday’s defeat to Abra that snapped its 10-game winning streak, Gensan came out with renewed energy and saw eight players score in double figures. The Warriors erected a commanding 123-80 advantage en route to the blowout win.
Fil-Indonesian Karl Gloria scored 19 points, while former College of St. Benilde standout Anton Eusebio delivered 18 points, 12 rebounds, two steals, and two blocks to earn Best Player honors. Marwin Dionisio added 17 points, nine rebounds, and six assists.
Also contributing for Gensan were Mark Cruz with 13 points, 13 assists, and six rebounds; CJ Gonzales with 12 points, five assists, and four rebounds; Joshua Fontanilla with 11 points; and Eloie Tan and Nelo Santos with 10 points apiece.
Paranaque remained winless after 12 games despite getting 20 points and three assists from Jobert Medina. Samuel Peralta and Dom Matillano scored 15 points each, while Paolo Castro added 10.
In the nightcap, the Meycauayan Marilao Gems survived a late Sarangani rally to escape with a 70-66 victory and improve to 7-3.
Jimboy Pasturan led the Gems with 24 points, four assists, and three rebounds, while Agem Miranda added 15 points, four assists, and two rebounds. Meycauayan Marilao appeared headed for a comfortable win after building a 67-42 lead with seven minutes remaining.
Sarangani, however, mounted a furious comeback behind Carl Bryan Lacap, who sparked a 17-point run and scored the last nine points of the surge to cut the deficit to 69-66 with 14.7 seconds left.
Jayson Apolonio split a pair of free throws with 1.6 seconds remaining to seal the win and send Sarangani to a 1-11 record.
Lacap finished with 24 points and three rebounds for the Marlins, while Danny Marilao contributed 17 points and eight rebounds.
In the overall standings race, Gensan and Abra continue to chase unbeaten leaders Caloocan Batang Kankaloo (11-0) and Quezon Province (8-0).
The MPBL resumes on Monday at the One Arena with Pasig taking on Bacolod at 4 p.m., Imus facing Zamboanga at 6 p.m., and Biñan battling Marikina at 8 p.m.
