Kristian Porter yearned for his moment in the UAAP with Ateneo, but things did not go as planned during his two years with the Blue and White.
In his brief yet impactful stint in the high school ranks of the league, the graduating big man cherished every single second on the court and absorbed every lesson he could take away.
In fact, Porter is in line to make the Mythical team.
“In my two years in the UAAP, I’ve learned that there were ups and downs, and most of the things that you expect will not go your way.
“You just have to adjust and have to keep working to go up against the competition,” said Porter, who is averaging 18.08 points, 15.46 rebounds, and 2.23 steals per contest this season.
Nonetheless, his experience transformed the former Magis Eagle into the player and person he is now.
“I realized that I also have many imperfections I have to work on to become a better person and player.”
As Porter’s high school career is about to come to a close with another exit from the Blue Eagles, college looms just around the corner.
Though it would be convenient for him to go to Ateneo – the same college where his brother Kris studied and where his friends Kyle Gamber, Mason Amos, and Jared Bahay are – he is still mulling his options.
And when asked about his plans, the 18-year-old student-athlete said, “Actually, I’m still undecided, so medyo pinag-iisipan ko pa.
“I’m still keeping my options open.”
For now, Porter’s focus is giving his all in his swan song in high school on Sunday against the University of the East.
“My mindset will be, as it is my last game, to leave an impression of me – and also the rest of the Eaglets team – that we can also be winners, and that through hard work, we can achieve anything.”
