Kiara Cruz confident in Farm Fresh’s progress despite draft deliberations

Coming off a promising All-Filipino Conference, Farm Fresh looks forward to a better showing in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference.

The Foxies will now be handled by an all-Japanese coaching staff.

According to their team manager Kiara Cruz, the team has adjusted well and is expected to be more lethal and explosive in the upcoming conference, which is slated to start on July 16.

In the past conference, Farm Fresh managed to turn heads despite a ninth-place finish. They upset Chery Tiggo with a sweep while also forcing Creamline to four sets and Choco Mucho to five, both of which were eventual finalists.

“I could say na it’s very smooth since yung mga bata very receptive sila kahit very young team kami. Grabe yung bilis ng pag-absorb nila sa Japanese culture,” said Cruz on the team’s transition with their Japanese coaching staff.

“I would say abangan sila this conference. They’re only going up from here,” she added on Wednesday during the PVL Draft Combine at the Gameville Ball Park.

The Foxies are led by wing spikers Trisha Tubu, Kate Santiago, and Caitlin Viray, as well as setter Louie Romero.

Their team composition is also poised for a massive improvement during the draft on July 8 at the Novotel, as Farm Fresh will select fourth in the first round.

However, with the depth of the draft – which drew 47 applicants – Cruz also divulged that they have yet to zero in on prospects.

“To be honest, we’re in a tough spot sa Farm Fresh but we’re very grateful for the fourth pick,” said Cruz, who formerly played for Ateneo de Manila University.

“Honestly kami rin we’re confused right now lalo na sa pool of talents that are here kung sino pong pipiliin namin, tingnan na lang natin sa Draft Day.”
