Kianna Dy cherishes birthday victory with teammates, family in Cebu

CEBU – Kianna Dy got exactly what she wished for — and more — on her birthday.

Dy, who turned 30 on Saturday, had one thing at the top of her birthday wish list: a win. And the High Speed Hitters made sure to deliver, sweeping the Chameleons in dominant fashion to remain unbeaten in Pool A of the 2025 PVL On Tour.

The veteran opposite spiker contributed nine points, including a game-high three blocks. She anchored PLDT’s impenetrable net defense in their 25-11, 25-17, 25-21 victory at the USJ-R Coliseum — one that also secured their spot in the quarterfinals.

More than the win, Dy was grateful to celebrate her milestone birthday with the people dearest to her: her teammates and her family, who flew in from Manila to be with her in Cebu.

“Super happy! Siyempre, one of my birthday wishes is to get the win today,” said the La Salle product, whose parents had also traveled from Metro Manila to Isabela two weeks ago just to watch her play.

“And very happy as well that I was able to spend my birthday with the people I love — my teammates, my family is also here — so it’s a very happy birthday for me,” she added.

The 5-foot-10 Dy, who recently returned to action after recovering from a major knee injury, also expressed gratitude for the warm reception from the Cebuano crowd.

“Very happy also with how the fans welcomed us here, and I super loved the energy. It’s really fun playing in front of people who are very energetic,” said Dy, clearly a fan favorite in Cebu, as supporters held up birthday banners in her honor.

But while she relished the birthday win, Dy knows the celebration won’t last long.

PLDT is back on the court tomorrow at 4:00 PM against Galeries Tower, aiming to sweep the pool stage with a perfect 5-0 record and secure the top seed heading into the next round.

“You can see naman na we work as a team, and continue lang sa next games and trainings. Maybe work more on consistency and communication. We’re just gonna work on it sa training,” she said.
