After opening the season with two losses, Wonju DB has seemingly recovered after they picked up their second straight win on Sunday in the Korean Basketball League (KBL).
Ethan Alvano, who signed a two-year contract with the Promy, starred once again for the team as he scattered 13 points to go with six boards and three dimes to help Wonju DB prevail over defending KBL champions Seoul SK Knights, 92-83, at Wonju Gymnasium.
Wonju, also bannered by South Korean national team star big man Kim Jongkyu and former Toronto Raptor, import Dewan Fernandez, found themselves down early and had their first taste of the driver seat only towards the end of the third quarter.
Alvano, who prior to moving to playing in Korea suited up for Eisbaren Bremerhaven in the German top tier Pro A, also scored in double figures in their team’s win on Saturday against the Sonicboom.
Meanwhile, SJ Belangel and Daegu KOGAS found themselves plunging to the bottom of the standings as they absorbed a 70-81 defeat to the home team Seoul Samsung at the Jamsil Arena in Seoul.
The Pegasus went down by 14 at the half. They managed to cut it down to just five at the end of the third quarter, but the Samsung Thunders managed to hold on to earn their second win in four games.
Belangel had seven rebounds and two assists but was limited to just six points as he was unable to prevent Daegu’s third loss in four outings.
Rhenz Abando watched helplessly from the sidelines as his team, Anyang KGC, absorbed its first loss this season, 93-99, to Jeonju KCC. Abando is still recovering from a hip injury,
