Kaya-Iloilo and Dynamic Herb Cebu concluded their 2024–2025 AFC Champions League Two group stage campaigns with losses to Australia’s Sydney FC and Malaysia’s Selangor FC, respectively, on Thursday.
At Jubilee Oval in Sydney, back-to-back Philippines Football League champion Kaya-Iloilo fell 3-1 to Sydney FC.
The Australian side secured second place in Group E with 12 points, earning a spot in the round of 16.
Meanwhile, Dynamic Herb Cebu suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Selangor FC at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.
Adrian Segesic opened the scoring for Sydney in the 38th minute, converting a corner kick from teammate Patrick Wood.
Wood then doubled the lead with a strike from outside the box in the second minute of first-half stoppage time.
In the second half, Jaiden Kucharski added Sydney’s third goal in the 75th minute.
Kaya’s Robert Lopez Mendy salvaged a consolation goal in the 85th minute, finding the back of the net.
Kaya-Iloilo ended their campaign in third place in Group E with four points, tallying one win, one draw, and four losses.
Venezuelan midfielder Yohandry Orozco led the charge for the Malaysian club with a brace, scoring in the 44th and 48th minutes.
Nooa Laine added a third with a long-range strike in the 57th minute, and Alvin Fortes sealed the victory with a goal in the 79th minute.
Selangor narrowly missed advancing to the round of 16, finishing third in Group H with 10 points – just behind South Korea’s Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors (12 points) and Thailand’s Muangthong United (11 points).
Cebu finished at the bottom of Group H with only one point from a draw and five losses, marking a tough conclusion to their campaign.
