One Taguig pulled off another stunning upset in the Philippines Football League, defeating three-time champions Kaya-Iloilo 1-0 on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Isaac Agyemang scored the lone goal in the 28th minute, lifting One Taguig level on points with league leaders Kaya, with two games in hand.
The victory was even more remarkable as One Taguig had to finish the match with 10 men.
Oliver Bias’ initial cross into the box was collected by Kaya goalkeeper Patrick Deyto, but the ball slipped from his grasp, allowing Agyemang to pounce and fire it into the back of the net.
“We had one objective, and that was to win,” said Mark Hartmann, who earned Man of the Match honors. “Every time you play against Kaya, it’s going to be tough. We worked hard, got the three points, and that’s what matters.”
Earlier on Saturday, Maharlika outlasted Mendiola 1991, 4-2, to provisionally move into fifth place, overtaking Stallion Laguna.
Goals from Lorenzo Lucindo (13’), Jorrel Aristorenas (37’), Kim Jinhyeon (59’), and Daniel Oppong (81’) powered Maharlika, while Yohan Mbida scored twice for Mendiola in the 39th and 47th minutes.
Meanwhile, in Talisay City, Cebu, Dynamic Herb Cebu demolished Tuloy 10-0 at the Dynamic Herb-Borromeo Sports Complex.
Asano Katio recorded a hat-trick in the 6th, 8th, and 59th minutes, while Glen Ramos added a brace in the 34th and 53rd.
Joshua Broce (39’), Rhino Goutier (64’), Kore Marius (82’), and Goktug Demiroglu (90’) completed the rout.
